Gotham School of Theology Choosing a Future
How can the new director of a theological school recapture both quality of instruction and a positive cash flow?
From 1987 until 2004 Reverend Thomas Patrick Finney was the president of Gotham School of Theology. His strategy, focused on increasing enrollments and program offerings, did not have the expected impact: the operating deficit did not decrease and the board of trustees was concerned about the quality of the programs and the school’s public image. This case presents enrollment and financial data and asks students to consider how Father Finney's successor should meet these managerial challenges.
