SAMPLE ISSUES

  • Is the trend of integration and acquisition of physician practices by hospitals and other corporate entities leading to higher or lower costs or improvement in clinical care? Is one of those integrators (i.e., hospital systems, health plans, practice management companies) better positioned to deliver higher quality and lower cost?
  • Is the US healthcare delivery system prepared to take on financial risk and the alignment of incentives that could lead to improvement in quality and cost? If they are prepared, are they really able?
  • In what ways are providers collaborating with nontraditional partners – such as health plans, pharmaceutical companies and specialty benefit managers – to identify and pursue novel ways to treat disease, facilitate efficient R&D, and promote wellness, including use of HCIT/ data analytics?
  • How are payers incorporating value-based insurance design, account based financial incentives, transparency and consumer engagement techniques (e.g., gaming, mobile, etc.) to align incentives with consumers to achieve higher quality and lower cost?
  • How does the use of IT and electronic medical records create more efficient and effective healthcare delivery and promote data integration? Is there evidence that these methods will justify the cost of implementation and adoption?
