The main objective of the course is to develop insight into the process by which firms can create value for their shareholders by formulating strategies in which finance is a crucial competitive weapon.  Topics include discounted cash flow models, risk and return, capital asset pricing model, capital market efficiency, capital structure and the cost of capital, dividend policy, and leasing.



Mauricio Larrain

Assistant ProfessorProfessor Larrain joined Columbia Business School in 2012. He received a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California at Berkeley. He was awarded the Western Finance Association's Trefftzs Award for the best doctoral student paper for his dissertation. Professor Larrain works on empirical macroeconomics and finance. His research studies the links between financial markets and the macroeconomy.
