This course is designed to provide students with a real world introduction to the approach and tools needed to evaluate equity security investment opportunities. While the course focuses on the analysis of equity securities as practiced at buy-side investment managers, the lessons in analyzing company fundamentals and valuing investment opportunities are broadly applicable for professionals with responsibility for business strategy, capital allocation, and corporate investments. Over the course of the semester, each student will complete two separate investment analyses, incorporating strategic, financial, and qualitative considerations, and synthesizing their work into a concise investment “pitch”. For students with limited or no investing background, this course will provide the basic toolkit required to value an equity security and make an investment recommendation. For students with prior investing experience, this course is designed to enhance their approach to analyzing equity securities by incorporating perspectives such as private market valuations, governance & management considerations, and the impact of the credit markets.
