Deming Cup Winners Lecture

  • Operational Excellence in a Global Manufacturing Firm

    On February 11, 2014, Deming Cup Winner Paolo Rocca, Chairman and CEO of Tenaris S.A., presented the lecture "Operational Excellence in a Global Manufacturing Firm" at Columbia Business School. The event, which took place at Roone Arledge Cinema (Lerner Hall), counted with 250 attendees, mainly MBA students and faculty from the Business School. It also included a panelist table formed by Professors Carri Chan, Nelson Fraiman and Gabriel Weintraub.

  • The Future of Macy´s

    Terry Lundgren, Chairman, President and CEO of Macy’s, Inc. and recipient of the Deming Cup 2012, visited Columbia on November 14, 2013 as part of the “Deming Cup Winners Lecture” series. His lecture, entitled “The Future of Macy’s”, included a long session of Q&A by the attendees, mainly Faculty members and students.

  • Operational excellence and the turnaround of Fiat and Chrysler

    Sergio Marchionne, Chairman and CEO of Chrysler Group LLC, CEO of Fiat S.p.A. and recipient of the Deming Cup 2011, came to Columbia on November 8, 2012 to deliver a lecture to students, faculty, and friends of the Deming Center. Marchionne talked about the importance of operational excellence in the turaround of Fiat and Chrysler.

  • A Business and Its Ideas: Shaping a Company and a Century

    Samuel Palmisano, Chairman, President and CEO of IBM, and recipient of the Deming Cup Award 2010, came to Columbia Business School on November 2, 2011 to deliver the final IBM's Centennial Lecture to students, faculty, and friends of the Deming Center. Glenn Hubbard, Dean, Columbia Business School, enthusiastically introduced Sam to the audience.

A judging committee, led by co-chairs Terry Lundgren (Chairman, President and CEO, Macy’s Inc., 2012 Deming Cup Winner), Sergio Marchionne (Chairman and CEO, Chrysler Group LLC; CEO, Fiat SpA, 2011 Deming Cup Winner) and Paul O’Neill (72nd Secretary of the U.S. Treasury, former Chairman and CEO, Alcoa), will evaluate the nominees. The winner will be honored at a dinner on October 28, 2014 at Columbia University.
