Everything I Never Knew About Business School: The Admissions "Mistake"

I can distinctly remember the moment during my experience at Columbia Connect I in February 2012. I looked at my lunch table, filled with brilliant, creative people with diverse and interesting backgrounds and had the thought, "I hope the admissions team doesn't realize that they made a mistake when they let me in..."

I was anxious, but as I let myself relax, I started to enjoy the day and leave behind the stress of feeling like I didn’t belong.

I've since learned that many of my classmates felt the same way, either during Connect or during Orientation. But, what I have come to learn is that the admissions team knows exactly what they are doing!

This past spring, I helped to plan and execute Columbia Connect I and II for the Class of 2015. I saw what the admissions team, the administration, and the professors must see when they meet a new class. You are all AMAZING! There are no “admissions mistakes” among you.

As you arrive on campus, I hope you learn, as I did, that your class is diverse and bright. That your classmates are the brilliant leaders of tomorrow, and that they will push you, inspire you, and motivate you to achieve things you've only dreamed of. I am already resoundingly impressed with your accomplishments and I feel proud to call you my classmates, peers, and friends. You may have doubts from time to time, but I hope that when you are tempted to feel that way, you will stop for a moment and remember:

Everyone adds to the CBS community.

To the Class of 2015, welcome to Columbia Business School, you're going to love it here.
