Laurence Lien has led the National Volunteer and Philanthropy Center Singapore since 2008. Under his leadership, it has become an important capacity builder in the Singapore nonprofit sector. He led the formation of the Centre for Non-Profit Leadership, the only organization in Singapore dedicated to nurturing nonprofit leaders. He also started and headed the Community Foundation of Singapore, one of the fastest-growing community foundations in Asia.
Mr. Lien is also the deputy chairman of the Caritas Singapore Community Council and a board member of the Lien Centre for Social Innovation at Singapore Management University. He has been a board member of the Lien Foundation since 2002, and its chair since 2009. In the last decade, the Lien Foundation has become known globally for its innovative approach to addressing the challenges of preschool education in Singapore, end-of-life care, and the water and sanitation problems in Asia.
Laurence is a frequent speaker at local and international conferences and contributes regularly to the Straits Times on social and community issues. In 2010, Laurence was awarded the Eisenhower Fellowship.
