Senior Vice President and President, Medtronic International

Jean-Luc Butel was named Senior Vice President and President of International operations at Medtronic in April 2008. In this role, he is responsible for all sales and distribution of Medtronic products and therapies delivered outside of the United Sates. Prior to this position, Jean-Luc served as Senior Vice President and President, Asia Pacific, responsible for managing and driving all business activities for Medtronic in the Asia Pacific region.

Jean-Luc joined Medtronic in September 2003 after accumulating a wealth of experience during his years of services with U.S. multinational companies in both Asia and the United States. His career experience includes service as President of Independence Technology, a Johnson & Johnson company, where he focused on providing mobility systems for the movement impaired. From 1991 to1999, he served Becton Dickinson, in several leadership roles including General Manager of the Microbiology business in Japan, President of Japan and as President of Worldwide Consumer Healthcare. From 1985 to 1991, Jean-Luc held multiple roles with Johnson & Johnson including General Manager of Fiji, China Project Manager, and Marketing Director of the J&J ophthalmic business in Southeast Asia. He is past Chairman of the Medical Devices and Diagnostics Subcommittee at The American Chamber of Commerce in Japan.

Jean-Luc has a bachelor's degree in International Affairs from George Washington University and a master's in International Business from the American Graduate School of International Management (Thunderbird).
