Clusters and Learning Teams
In your first year at Columbia Business School, you will join a cluster of students from a variety of personal and professional backgrounds. Together, you will study the core curriculum, explore the city, lead student clubs, and volunteer your time. Within your cluster, you will be assigned to a four to five person learning team. Carefully selected for their professional and personal diversity, your team will represent a variety of fields such as finance, consulting, engineering, and nonprofit work. Together, you will team up on assignments, each of you bringing a unique perspective to solve the business challenges before you.
Columbia Business School proudly fosters a collaborative learning environment. You will soon see that the community this environment creates will greatly enrich your time at the School. Lifelong friendships are made, creating extraordinary business connections and opportunities that last far beyond graduation.
Each cluster is divided into learning teams, groups of about five students from diverse professional and personal backgrounds who complete assignments for most core courses as a team. Not only do learning teams offer insights into other areas of expertise and styles of learning, working intimately with the same people across a range of subjects helps students connect the dots between the different areas of study in the core, creating a more holistic, real-world, and lasting education.
