The largest-ever gathering of real estate alumni, spanning more than 50 class years, took place on April 30 at the Columbia Club of New York. This 2013 Annual Alumni Real Estate Reception honored Distinguished Real Estate Partner John R. Klopp.
Mr. Klopp is a managing director of Morgan Stanley and co-chief executive officer and co-chief investment officer of Morgan Stanley Real Estate Investing. From 1997 to 2009, he was the CEO of Capital Trust, a publicly traded real estate finance and investment management company that he co-founded. Prior to this, he was the founder and managing partner of Victor Capital Group (1989-1997), and he had previously served as managing director and co-head of Chemical Realty Corporation, the real estate investment banking arm of Chemical Bank. Klopp introduced the first-ever offering of a Real Estate Capital Markets course at Columbia Business School and serves as the chair of the School’s Real Estate Program Advisory Board. He is an active member of various real estate organizations including the Pension Real Estate Association. He received a BA in economics from Tufts University and an MBA in finance and real estate from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
