Louis Bacon ’81, founder, chairman, chief executive officer, and principal investment manager of Moore Capital Management, LP, and a member of the School’s Board of Overseers, has made a generous donation to Columbia Business School from The Moore Charitable Foundation (MCF).
Mr. Bacon is the Chairman of MCF, which he founded in 1992.
Mr. Bacon’s donation will support the School’s new facilities, which are a part of Columbia University’s expansion into Manhattanville, just north of the University’s Morningside Campus. To date, the School has raised over $440 million in pledges and gifts for the project.
“I am proud to support Columbia Business School as it continues to grow alongside the changing landscape of business today,” said Mr. Bacon. “This new home in Manhattanville will enhance the School’s ability to foster transformative ideas and prepare future generations of business leaders to impact the world. I further applaud the environmentally responsible approach taken in the design and construction of these facilities, as it shows that stewardship and business can work hand in hand.”
The new buildings, designed by renowned New York architecture firm Diller Scofidio + Renfro, in collaboration with FXFOWLE, will reflect the fast-paced, high-tech, and highly social character of business in the 21st century. The facilities will encompass more than 450,000 square feet and will offer multifunctional spaces that foster a sense of community — spaces where students, faculty members, alumni, and practitioners can gather to exchange ideas. Columbia University is committed to using a sustainable design and the Manhattanville project has earned LEED-ND (neighborhood development) designation from the U.S. Green Building Council.
Mr. Bacon has been an avid supporter of Columbia Business School for many years and is also a highly regarded and influential conservation philanthropist who has spent more than two decades leading efforts to protect natural resources in the United States and abroad.
