Does patent law support new ideas or hinder them?
On December 4, 2015, the US Federal District Court ruled that Samsung must pay Apple $548 million in damages resulting from its infringement of Apple’s design patents on the iPhone. Case A takes a multi-sided view of patent law, presenting arguments both for and against its enforcement in the technology age. Case B presents the views of Professor Kathryn Rudie Harrigan, commenting on whether patent laws inhibit or promote innovation.
