Daniel First is the CEO of Axion, a machine learning company. His research focuses on enterprise applications of artificial intelligence in engineering R&D. Previously, he was at McKinsey & Company and QuantumBlack, where he led a team of strategy consultants and data scientists to solve interdisciplinary, strategic problems faced by executives at automotive and aerospace OEMs. He completed his undergraduate studies in cognitive science and neuroscience at Yale University. He also holds an M.Phil. in philosophy from the University of Cambridge, where he was a Henry Fellow, and an M.S. in data science from Columbia University, where he was an NSF Graduate Research Fellow. He serves as a steering committee member on the Partnership on AI ABOUT ML risk committee and lectures frequently at universities and conferences on the topics of machine learning in risk management and explainable AI.
