Biography
Rajeev Kohli is the Ira Leon Rennert Professor of Business at Columbia Business School. His research interests are in mathematical models of non-compensatory choice, product design and recommendation systems. He has published papers in leading journals in marketing, operations research, discrete mathematics and mathematical psychology. He has also served on the editorial boards of leading journals including Management Science and Operations Research.
Prof. Kohli served as the Chair of the school’s marketing division from 2010-2013. From 2016-2018, he was the chair of the marketing PhD program. He has also served on the school’s executive committee and promotions and tenure committee, and as a representative of the business school on the Columbia University Senate.
Prof. Kohli serves on the advisory board of the Deepak and Neera Raj Center on Indian Economic Policies at Columbia University. The center supports research, events and high-visibility programs on the development of the Indian economy. He has previously served on the board of NYC Media Labs, which was founded by the city of New York to spur innovation and entrepreneurship in the media industries.
Prof. Kohli teaches Catching Growth Waves in Emerging Markets to MBA and EMBA students. He also teaches Mathematical Models in Marketing to PhD students. He has written several cases, including Amazon: Taking on in India, Walmart: From China to India, Finding Coherence in Diversified Conglomerates: How Tata and 3M Pursue Strategic Growth, Launch of the Indian Premier League and Scrabulous on Facebook.
Prof. Kohli earned a PhD in Applied Economics and Decision Sciences from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania (1984); an MBA from Northern Illinois University (1980); and a BE (Electrical) from the Birla Institute for Science and Technology, Pilani, India (1977).
