Are you an unbiased leader? Do you make rational decisions based on the information available and your best judgment? Or are you perhaps suffering from the anchoring effect, hindsight bias, planning fallacy, and confirmation bias? Every day in your career, you may be taking actions and making decisions that are based in part on perceptions and beliefs of which you are completely unaware. In this program, you’ll find out about the dangers of these cognitive biases, practice how to recognize them in yourself and others, and learn about proactive interventions to counteract them.

Joe Timko

Joe Timko is a former McKinsey & Co partner who worked in telecom communications equipment and services, IT software and services, industrial controls, and chemicals for 13 years. In 2010, he moved to the corporate sector where he served as Chief Strategy Officer for two Fortune 500 companies. More recently, he spent 3 years in the Americas advisory strategy practice of Ernst & Young.
At Columbia, Timko teaches popular courses on Managerial Decision Making and Succeeding as a Consultant. His passion for behavioral economics was ignited in 2011 when he read Thinking Fast and Slow, which has fundamentally changed the way he thinks about business interactions.
