“So many families today co-own businesses, family offices, and philanthropy. This program helps all family members learn how to work better together and to successfully lead their families into the future.”
– Program Faculty Director Patricia Angus

Faculty director Patricia Angus introduces the program.

An "enterprising family" understands that all members of the family need to know how to manage and lead all aspects of their joint endeavors. This is important not only for the success of each individual, but for the success of their family and all they impact through their business, investments, and/or philanthropy. In a family business, family office, or charitable foundation, enterprising family members combine the stewardship created by prior generations with an entrepreneurial approach to the future. To succeed at this, the family must develop ownership, management, and governance skills to match their unique situation. Building on research and lessons learned, Columbia Business School has the tools that can help families learn and lead together.

Family businesses are the oldest and most common form of business. Yet in today’s fast-changing, volatile, and global business environment, family businesses face unique challenges that are often complicated by factors specific to their structure and to families’ traditions, cultures, and interests.

Designed and delivered by the faculty who created Columbia Business School's Family Business Program that enables students to understand all aspects of owning, managing, and working with family enterprises, this three-day executive education program is delivered by faculty with decades of experience advising family-owned firms.

Members of enterprising families who own shared assets, including operating enterprises, family offices, investments, philanthropy, and more will learn how to view their business situation through time-tested frameworks that provide best practices and lessons learned from academia and practice.

By learning together, family members will be able to lead all that they do together more effectively, efficiently, and harmoniously. This program is designed to draw families from around the globe who share common challenges across cultures.
