PROGRAM STRUCTURE

The three-part program is structured around three key capabilities demonstrated by leaders of agile organizations.

Part 1: Agile Leadership Mindset

  • Become aware of changes in situations, circumstances, and relationships and be unbiased and clear-sighted about personal and organizational feedback.

Part 2: Agile Leadership Skills

  • Find, recognize, and use incoming information to update assumptions and adjust behaviors.
  • Communicate effectively with multiple stakeholders in text, symbols, actions, and other means and paint a clear picture of what is happening and what needs to be done — in a language the target audience can understand.

Part 3: Agile Leadership Potential

  • Set targets with clear consequences for gaps between desired and actual performance.
  • Develop strength in areas other than your dominant processes and have the ability to support multiple different processes when appropriate.

Trish Gorman, Faculty Director
Consultant, Author and Professor
Former Director of Global Strategy Learning, McKinsey & Company

Trish Gorman is a strategy expert and consultant who has developed and delivered high-impact learning programs for hundreds of organizations in diverse industries. The common thread across all of Trish’s work is a laser focus on effective and proactive leadership of strategic change. Trish designs corporate and institutional educational programs and is a subject matter expert for selected early-stage investors and entrepreneurs. At Columbia Business School Executive Education, Dr. Gorman is also the co-faculty director of the Mastering Corporate Entrepreneurship program as well as faculty director of various custom client programs.

In her teaching, Gorman connects cutting-edge research with management priorities and decisions to build essential future-focused skills – supporting individuals on their journey from the classroom to the team room to the board room. Her strategy and agility frameworks are used around the world and she has published in Deloitte Review, Harvard Business Review, Forbes, and similar outlets.

Rita McGrath
Faculty at Executive Education

Rita McGrath is a globally recognized expert on strategy, innovation, and growth. Her work and ideas help CEO's and senior executives succeed in rapidly changing and volatile environments, and she is valued for her rare ability to connect research to business problems. Recognized as one of the top 10 management thinkers by global management award Thinkers50 and winning the award for outstanding achievement in the strategy category, McGrath speaks regularly at corporate events, such as the Microsoft CEO Summit and the World Economic Forum meeting in Davos. She appears regularly on television and radio and is often cited in the press, including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Financial Times, and Businessweek and has published several articles in the Harvard Business Review. McGrath is the co-author of three books in addition to her latest book, The End of Competitive Advantage: How to Keep Your Strategy Moving as Fast As Your Business (Harvard Business Review Press). She has also been named one of the top ten business school professors to follow on Twitter, and was named one of the 25 smartest women to follow on Twitter by Fast Company magazine.

Joel Brockner
Phillip Hettleman Professor of Business

Joel Brockner is a leading authority on a variety of psychological issues in the workplace, including change management, leadership, decision-making, the role of the self, and cross-cultural differences in work behavior. He has consulted about the planning and implementation of significant organizational change, leadership development, and decision making with such organizations as the Association of Art Museum Curators, Canadian Health Services Research Foundation, Citigroup, ConocoPhillips, Eastman Kodak, IXIS Capital Markets, MBNA, Pfizer, State Farm Insurance, Southern New England Telephone, and Stratus Technologies.

Brockner’s book publications cover decision making in "sunk cost" situations, causes and consequences of employees’ self esteem, and the role of justice in the workplace. He has published more than 100 articles and book chapters in a variety of prestigious outlets, including Harvard Business Review and the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology. He has served on the editorial board of numerous management and psychology journals including the Academy of Management Journal, the Academy of Management Review, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, and the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology.

Brockner is a fellow of the Academy of Management and of the American Psychological Association (Division of Industrial and Organizational Psychology). He served as the chairman of the management division from 2005 to 2011 at Columbia Business School.
