Style Guide

A consistent editorial style is one of the most fundamental ways to make a positive, professional impression on the students, alumni, scholars, business leaders, and others who make up our community. Strategic Communications has created this online style guide for you to use as a resource when questions arise about grammar, usage, spelling, and the School’s editorial voice.

Columbia Business School’s house style is largely based on the Chicago Manual of Style (16th edition) and Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary (11th edition). Both publications offer robust online resources that we encourage you to explore if you cannot find an answer in the School’s style guide.
