Connecting To A Laptop

Owl cameras are generally installed in rooms without built-in computers. They work in conjunction with your personal laptop or tablet device to augment your existing webcam, microphone and speaker functionality for video conferencing.

What To Bring

Owl-equipped rooms are designed to operate in conjunction with your laptop or other portable device. You will need to provide a few items not permanently installed in the room. Here's what you'll need in order to get started:

  • A laptop or tablet with a USB-A port.
  • If your device doesn't have a USB-A port, you will need to bring an appropriate adapter. For example, many modern laptops only have a USB-C port, so you will need a USB-A to USB-C adapter.

Connecting Your Device

The Owl meeting camera is already powered on, and operates entirely via. a single USB connection. To connect your device, use the provided USB cable as well as any necessary USB adapters you brought with you.

Provided USB-A cable

Connect to laptop.

You may need a USB-C adapter. (Not provided)

Configuring Zoom

After connecting your device to the Owl camera, it will show up as a selectable input within Zoom. If your Zoom software doesn't automatically select the Owl camera, you may need to select the Owl camera manually. To select the Owl manually, click the "up" arrow next to the Zoom Mute icon in the bottom-left corner of the Zoom window. A drop-down menu will appear. Select "Meeting Owl Pro" as both your speaker and microphone. Then, click the "up" arrow next to the Stop/Start Video icon in the bottom-left corner of the Zoom window. A drop-down menu will appear. Select "Meeting Owl Pro Camera" as your camera.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter any issues with connecting to your Owl camera (including being unable to view the device in your video conferencing software or not receiving audio or video), the first step you can take is to reboot the Owl device. This can be done by unplugging the power cable, located on the bottom of the device, and plugging it back in. The Owl will make a "hoot" noise as it boots back up, which takes approximately 30-60 seconds.

After rebooting the Owl, if you are still experiencing an error, contact the Multimedia Group's emergency line at (212) 854-6094.
