The Media Program and the MMA invited many seasoned professionals from the Media industry this spring semester. Below is a summary:
The Mentoring Breakfast Series
The Mentoring Breakfast Series, which the MMA organizes with the Media Program, has continued in full force this semester, enabling students to interact with leaders in media in an informal setting. On Feb. 14 Ann Sarnoff, COO of BBC Worldwide America, discussed her role expanding BBC's footprint in the US and broadening awareness of its offerings beyond well-known shows like Dr. Who and the BBC's iconic news organization. Sarnoff also discussed her background in strategy consulting and how achieving deep customer understanding helped her from Nickelodeon, where she built the company's consumer products group, to the WNBA and Dow Jones.
We also welcomed Eric Schmidt ’05, Director of Business Development at MTV Networks International, on March 21. Beyond discussing about the importance of MTV’s international strategy and the dynamics of its windowing strategy, Schmidt talked about how he was able to build a successful career outside of the traditional tracks of banking and consulting.
On April 18, Dhiraj Kumar met with MMA members on to talk about his career at Facebook. Dhiraj is a Mobile Strategist within the Global Customer Marketing group at Facebook, where he works with leading brands in the telecom industry to create strategic partnerships. His work with these brands includes co-developing social business strategy and transformative marketing programs.
On March 24th, three members of AOL’s business development team spoke to a packed classroom of current students about the future of AOL and online media. Ben Luban ’09, Ken Suh ’07 and Dave Allen ’05 covered a range of topics, including AOL’s recent acquisition of the Huffington Post and how that acquisition supports AOL’s overarching strategy to engage with its online customer base. The three grads also provided candid answers to students’ questions about the challenges that online media companies face in attracting and retaining loyal customers.
Look for a great line up this coming fall semester!
