Columbia Business School Professor Trevor Harris Named to Financial Accounting Standards Board Advisory Committee
Trevor Harris, Arthur J. Samberg Professor of Professional Practice at Columbia Business School, has been named to the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB)’s Investor Advisory Committee.
The FASB Investor Advisory Committee (IAC) consists of 7 to 11 members, who demonstrate a keen interest in and knowledge of financial accounting and reporting matters, a commitment to improving financial reporting for users of financial statements, and the ability to provide input on a wide variety of financial reporting matters. IAC members provide advice to the FASB Board from the investors’ perspective and share their views and experience on current and potential projects.
“I am honored to be named to the FASB’s Investor Advisory Committee and to be part of an. I look forward to assisting the FASB with the investor perspective on the financial reporting policies they establish,” said Professor Harris, whose research and practical experience covers most areas of the use of accounting information for valuation, investment, and management decisions.
“The five new IAC members will add several important perspectives to our discussions,” FASB Chairman Russell G. Golden said in a statement. “From investors with large institutions, corporations, and governments as banking clients to investors who specialize in applying quantitative techniques to financial data—each of the IAC members has an interest in advising the FASB on how it can improve financial reporting for financial statement users.”
The FASB is the independent, private-sector, non-profit organization that establishes financial accounting and reporting standards for public and private organizations that follow Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The FASB is recognized by the Securities and Exchange Commission as the designated accounting standard setter for public companies.
