Student Paper Featured in Top Mexican Newspaper
“TV Azteca: A Case Study of Corporate Governance in Mexico,” by Maryann Bryant-Rubio, MBA ’05, was prominently featured in the business section of El Reforma, one of Mexico’s leading newspapers.
Bryant-Rubio’s paper studies the importance of corporate governance to Latin American companies looking to raise capital in the international markets and uses cases related to Mexican businessman Ricardo Salinas Pliego to highlight the efforts of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to safeguard shareholders. Bryant-Rubio concludes that while Mexico has made significant strides in corporate governance, the gap between the rights of minority shareholders and those of insiders remains considerable. The paper was published in the recent Latin America–focused issue of the Chazen Web Journal of International Business.
