Columbia Business School and Morgan Stanley today launched the Morgan Stanley Sustainable Investing Fellowship to develop the next generation of leaders in sustainable investing. Morgan Stanley Chairman and CEO James Gorman, a 1987 Columbia Business School alumnus, announced the new program during the keynote address at the School’s Program for Financial Studies Conference.
The Sustainable Investing Fellowship will offer a select group of Columbia students the opportunity to combine research and practice to design efforts that seek to drive capital toward investments that promote sustainable economic growth. Fellows will conduct supervised research with Columbia Business School faculty members and participate in an internship at Morgan Stanley to gain hands-on experience in product innovation, thought leadership, and investment strategy.
“Morgan Stanley is pleased to partner with Columbia Business School to accelerate the research and innovation that advances the field of sustainable investing,” said Gorman. “Increasingly, our clients are searching for market-based strategies that support sustainable approaches to energy, food, water, and shelter, and we are committed to building the next generation of leaders who will help meet these challenges.”
“Columbia Business School has long considered Morgan Stanley a valued partner, and we are grateful for their ongoing support,” said Glenn Hubbard, dean of Columbia Business School. “The next generation of business leaders will be looked upon to develop sustainable solutions to a myriad of pressing challenges. The Sustainable Investing Fellowship will provide our students with an extraordinary opportunity to see how sustainable investing theories learned in the classroom can be applied to real-world challenges.”
The Fellowship will be part of the Morgan Stanley Institute for Sustainable Investing, a major initiative at Morgan Stanley that will work to advance market-based solutions to economic, social, and environmental challenges.
