Venture Type:
For-profit
What is the social or environmental issue being addressed?
Sortile provides technology to textile sorters so that they can identify the fiber composition of clothing and sell it to fiber-to-fiber recyclers. This allows sorters to increase diversion rates for textile waste. Every ton of textiles sorted for the recycling market reduces in 3.3 tons GHG emissions.
Innovation:
Sortile's initial product is a small, low-cost, device that uses NIR spectroscopy and machine learning to accurately identify the fiber composition of a given item. We also provide data analytics and management services to the textile recycling industry.
