Shelly Lazarus ’70: "CEOs Must Take Responsibility for Their Brand"

Shelly Lazarus '70 went from the boardroom to running the global advertising giant Ogilvy & Mather. As CEO she transformed the company’s culture, creating an integrated, multimedia advertising giant building the brands of some of the world’s most recognizable and profitable clients including American Express, Unilever, Motorola, Coca-Cola, IBM, and DuPont.

It is her dedication to only building the brands with strong values-based corporate cultures, combined with her advocacy for the challenges that all leaders of major multi-national companies face that has made Ms. Lazarus into one of the world’s most influential advertising executives.

Ms. Lazarus visited campus on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 to speak with Sanford C. Bernstein & Co. Center for Leadership and Ethics director Prof. Bruce Kogut about “working one’s way to the top”, the power of branding, values-based leadership, and her experiences leading a global company.
