Women and Philanthropy
Melissa Berman, president and CEO of Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, moderated a discussion on women and investing with Elizabeth Carlock-Phillips, executive director of Phillips Foundation, and S. Mona Sinha, ’93BUS, chairwoman of Women Moving Millions.
Philanthropy today has a historically unparalleled set of tools available to achieve social change, ranging from traditional donations to impact investing, advocacy and political campaigning, and using social media and other forms of
communication to build movements and empower people. There is more philanthropy globally than there has ever been before, and the resources coming into the sector are profound. There are estimates that women around the world control 30 to 40 percent of wealth. Mona and Elizabeth discussed why the way women approach giving and investing holds so much promise for societal issues, and why all of us want to be investing in empowering women and girls.
